Speaking postgame in media availability, the Ukrainian defender and boss Tata Martino both expressed frustration at the fact that they could not grind out a result at Chase Stadium. Kryvtsov shared that two of the goals they conceded were the reason why they lost, and that their defense needs to step up in situations like that.

“Set pieces are our biggest weakness,” Kryvtsov said. “Again today, two goals from two set pieces. It is too much for our opponents.”
Martino added: “I thought we deserved to win the game. What concerns me is that we are a team that doesn’t defend with intensity in the important moments, be they in transition or on set pieces. We did not have a good start. The first 10 to 15 minutes were poor, and the truth is our opponent got two easy goals. It was a game we could have won and had enough (talent) to win.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Herons were exposed twice on set pieces during their 3-2 loss to CF MTL Sunday evening, including a nine-minute period where the teams traded off two goals a-piece. It was their first loss of the season, and arguably their most disappointing performance so far in 2024.
Martino rolled out with five defenders, but at times, they were lost in terms of tracking their opponent, and seemingly, struggled to build up any sort of possession in the final-third.
