Gloucestershire captain Alex Gidman has signed with New Zealand side Otago for the 2007-08 season.Gidman was Gloucestershire’s leading run-scorer during the 2007 English summer with 912 runs at 39.65 ahead of former New Zealand batsmen Hamish Marshall and Craig Spearman.Otago had a mixed season last year, reaching both the State Shield one-day final and the Twenty20 final before losing to Auckland on each occasion. Their four-day form was much less impressive as they finished bottom of the State Championship without a victory.Gidman says he hopes to bring a change of fortunes. “I am really looking forward to getting overseas to New Zealand, getting stuck in and helping the [Otago] Volts win some trophies.”
