Spurs could now sign Morata

According to Spanish news outlet El Partidazo de COPE and their reporter Juanma Castano, Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a late-window boost as they chase Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing striker move?

Speaking at the start of the window, reliable Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold claimed that signing an out-and-out striker was one of Antonio Conte’s four priorities at N17.

Indeed, the football.london journalist revealed that a forward signing is top of the agenda alongside the additions of a right-wing-back, left-sided central defender and a midfielder.

Tottenham have been linked to the likes of Dusan Vlahovic, before his blockbuster €80 million (£66.5m) move to Juventus, with the likes of PSG star Mauro Icardi also mentioned at points.

Sharing news on who Fabio Paratici could target in these final days of January, Castano and El Partidazo de COPE have shared a potential boost for Spurs as they pursue Morata.

The Latest: Tottenham table ‘offer’…

According to their sources (via Twitter), Tottenham have made an ‘offer’ to sign the former Chelsea striker who is currently in his second year on loan at Juve.

His parent club Atletico, however, are considering cutting his loan short and selling him before January 31 with both Spurs and Newcastle in the picture.

The La Liga giants were ‘only considering’ a straight sale, but in a boost for Paratici and Conte, they could now accept a loan move to either the Lilywhites or Newcastle.

The Verdict: Get it done…

Morata is a curious case, having blown hot and cold throughout a topsy-turvy career.

Last season, the £125,000-per-week Spain international enjoyed a productive time in Turin, racking up 11 goals and 11 assists across 32 Serie A appearances under former boss Andrea Pirlo.

However, his worst campaign in the Premier League with Chelsea saw him notch just five goals in 16 outings before he eventually left Stamford Bridge for La Liga.

Conte has waxed lyrical over the 29-year-old in past seasons, even calling Morata a ‘complete player’, but the two-time Champions League winner has shown there is a Jekyll and Hyde element to his game in terms of form.

Depending on which Morata comes to N17, the gamble is somewhat mitigated in a potential loan deal if Spurs can agree those terms.
